SAYAKA ABE

Born in Japan in 1976, Sayaka Abe has been living and working in Paris since 2009. Her work has appeared in both individual and group exhibitions in both Japan and France since 2002.

After five years as an etching artist in Tokyo, she was awarded a fellowship in 2007 to spend a year studying at the HKU school of fine art in Utrecht, the Netherlands. In 2013 created the illustrations for her first children's book, Un poisson en avril (publisher Le Buveur d'Encre).

Sayaka is continually fascinated by Paris - its urban landscape, its classic architecture, its beautiful windows, its zinc roofs and chimneys - and she hopes to share the charm of this classic city through her etchings. She is equally inspired by the objects of daily life - shoes, dresses, cups, bottles, keys - which she strives to integrate into the Parisian landscape, to create a harmony and a story that she had never before imagined.
