CLEMENCE TROSSEVIN

Clémence Trossevin moved to Paris in 2011 to study art history and archaeology at the Ecole du Louvre. It was while studying Far Eastern arts that she developed her taste for the motifs adorning Chinese ceramics and silks. The work of color, form, purity or, on the contrary, the accumulation of motifs and decoration have left a deep impression on her.
For several years now, Clémence has been painting in gouache. Delicate, graceful drawing, a delicious color palette and virtuoso handling of light and shadow are her signature. Her influences lie somewhere between the Japanese Shin-Hanga artistic movement of the early 20th century, for the perfect balance between line and color, the precision of the drawing without an overload of detail, and Hergé's ligne claire with its simple lines and flat colors.
When Clémence paints, she draws on the source of her memories, the smells, the sensations, the representation of narrative scenes like snapshots of lived moments. "I believe that painting allows me to invoke moments of happiness. All the time spent thinking about a composition, looking for colors, the very act of painting allows me to relive a little of the moment represented."
